Passage: Isaiah 55:8-11
Service Type:

When you think about it, what would we know about God without the Bible.

  • Romans 1:20

Paul is telling us that we can look at the world around us, and know that there is a God. But, what would we know about Him if all we knew is what we can see around us.

We can see the orderliness in the design. But if we lived on an island with a volcano that erupted on a regular basis, we might think that He is a God of anger. We might have a skewed view of God.

Without the Bible, we wouldn't know much about God.

God always has a purpose for everything that He does. God had a purpose in giving hte Bible to man. Whatever those purposes that He has it will be accomplished.

  • Isaiah 55:8-11

Man cannot really understand the mind of God. But, God has revealed Himself, His thoughts and Words to us.

God had a reason for revealing His Word unto us. He had a reason for giving us the Bible. He has given us everything we need to know. His Word will not return unto Him void, but will be accomplished.

God Gave us the Bible To Tell Man He Is Lost

If God had not given us the Bible we wouldn't know anythng about Heaven or Hell. We wouldn't be able to look at the world and draw conclusions about eternity. We would not know that we are lost and that we need to be saved.

Every effort of man will come to nothing until He learns that He needs to be saved. We must know that we are spiritually sick in order to receive the medicine of salvation that we need.

Sin is what dooms man to be lost. Man was created pure. Adam and Eve were created without knowledge of sin.

  • Ecclesiastes  7:29

Man was created an upright being. A child is born an innocent being. But, when man sinned, he was made aware of right from wrong. He was cast out and separated from God.

  • Genesis 3:23,24

Up until this time, God walked with man. Sin separates us from God. And, it is not God that separates but rather man's choices that separates us from God.

Isaiah 59:1,2

God hasn't turned His back upon man, but rather, man has turned his back upon God.

  • Ephesians 2:12

You were lost, and there was no hope in this world. Man, because of his sins, is separated from God for eternal punishment.

  • Romans 6:23
  • Matthew 25:30-31, 46

The Bible is written to let us know that we are lost, and we need a savior. How could we know this without the Bible? We couldn't see this in nature, it is only through the Word of God can we know this.

God Gave us the Bible To Assure Man that He Desires All to Be Saved

He wants us to know that He wants all of us to be saved. This is the greatest demonstration of love. We are born innocent, and yet we come to a point of sin, and separation from God. Yet, God desires us to be saved.

The Bible states clearly that He wants all men to be saved.

  • 1 Timothy 2:3-4
  • 2 Peter 3:9

The invitation is for whosoever will come to God. He wants all to be saved, the Word of God is the power to salvation.

  • Romans 1:16

It is His power to free men from sin.

  • John 8:32
  • 2 Timothy 3:16-17

The Word of God is that which man can be saved. It is the means that leads us to salvation. It reaveals God's love for mankind that He sent His Son in order to save us.

  • John 3:16-17

God's love is for all of the world. His Word reveals the message of salvation.

  • Matthew 16:18-19

Every soul that is saved is added to the Lord's church.

  • Acts 2:47

The Bible is written to assure us that all men can be saved.

God Gave us the Bible To Explain all He Has Done to Save Man

He tells us that we must believe in His Son, but also the reason why we should believe. Man is capable of reasoning. He is made like God thus we can reason. He gave us the Bible so that we can read and study to learn about salvation.

God chose Abraham from all in the world and through whom He would create a nation of people.

  • Genesis 12:1-3

God cultivated, and tutored that nation through hundreds of years that through that nation He would bring the Savior into the world. He told us this so that we can read, and understand His plan to bring His Son to save us.

  • 1 Corinthians 10:11

The Old Testament teaches us two great lessons that a savior was coming, and that God means what He says.

  • Romans 15:4

We look at how God dealt with people of the past, how he was a God of justice and a God of mercy.

We see shadows, types and foreshadows and prophecies that we see fulfilled in the New Testament.

We see the glorious resurrection and coronation of Christ.

  • Acts 2:36-48

The New Testament teaches us about the establishment of the church. Everything in the Bible leads up to the great event of the church establishment, everything after leads us back to that event.

  • 2 Peter 1:3

All of this was done by God, to save man from Sin. The Bible explains to us what God has done, that man is sinful and lost, and needs salvation. Many people either don't understand, or partially understand the need for salvation.

  • Ephesians 3:1-5

It's been said that the Old Testament is the New Testament concealed, and the New Testament is the Old Testament revealed. The Bible was written so that we can know the meaning and means of salvation.

To Reveal What One Must Do to Be Saved

From the beginning of time God has revealed what God wants man to do.

  • Ecclesiastes 12:13
  • Acts 10:34-25

In every dispensation God's desire is for man to obey God.

  • Hebrews 5:8-9

Just as it was in the OT we have to fear God and obey Him. The Old law was to bring Christ into the world, but it was nailed to the cross.

Today, one must hear the word of God

  • Romans 10:17

We have to believe the word of God that Jesus is His Son.

  • John 8:24

We must repent of our sins.

  • Acts 17:30-31

He wants us to confess that Jesus is the Son of God. We must state before men, and not be ashamed to do so.

  • Matthew 10:42

We must be baptized for the remission of our sins.

  • Acts 2:36-28

God has told us clearly, revealed to us, what we must do to be saved.

God Gave us the Bible To Reveal What One Must Do to Keep Saved

The Lord knew that his disciples would need help to carry on. He knew the temptations of the world would be very strong. He knows and understands that many would be tempted to leave him.

  • John 17:17

The Bible reveals how one may remain saved. To be sanctified is to set apart. We must sanctify God, by being separate from he world. This can only be accomplished when we continue to grow in the Word of God and apply it to our lives.

When we do this we remain in fellowship with Him and His dear Son.

  • Revelation 2:10

God's purpose in giving us the Bible can only be completed when mankind applies His word to their lives.

Have you obeyed the Word of God so that you can have your sins forgiven and be saved? You can become a child of God. If you are a child who is not faithful you have opportunity to repent and be saved.
