A Lamp and a Light: Answering the Questions of Life

Life is a journey. We've never been here before. Everything we are experiencing is new to us. We may do the same thing day after day, but every single day is different. Life is a journey.

If we don't have something to guide us, a light, to keep us from falling and keep us on the path, we can fall.

  • Proverbs 6:20-23

Solomon writes to his son, but really this is God writing to us, His children. His word is a light for our feet and a light for our path. It is the only guide we need for knowing how to walk in this life.

It will help us and give us principles for living this life. It is the only guide we need. It will give us everything we need for a spiritual life.

  • 2 Peter 1:3

The Bible is understandable.

  • Nehemiah 3:8

The word of God can help us on our journey.  The Bibles answers in the major questions of life.

The Bible Answers the Question: Where Did All of This (The World) Originate?

  • Genesis 1:1

In the beginning, God. Right there in the beginning, God was already there. God is. God created the Heavens and the Earth. God is eternal, the Creator of everything.

  • Isaiah 45:12

He created everything that is in the Heavens. He created the land, the trees, the animals, and man.

  • Isaiah 42:5
  • Genesis 2:7

God is the source and maker of everything. He created it all by Christ Jesus. By His word it consists.

  • Genesis 1:3
  • Colossians 1:15,16

It originated with God.

The Bible Answers the Question: Why Am I Here on Earth?

The Bible shows us that God created man for a purpose.

  • Deuteronomy 6:4-5
  • Matthew 22:36-40

We are to love God. This descriptions is found 9 times in the Bible, 6 times in book of Deuteronomy and 3 times in the New Testament.

To love God, we must obey Him.

  • John 14:15
  • 1 John 5:3
  • Joshua 23:11

In Joshua's last address he reminds them they are to love God. He created us out of love and we are to love Him in return.

Idols are not to be our purpose in life. Anything that comes between us and God, anything that stands in the place of God, is an idol. Anything that replaces God in your life is an idol.

The Bible Answers the Question: Why Are We Here?

Why are we here? We are to love God.

  • Ecclesiastes 12:13

To fear God is to love God.

  • Amos 5:14,14

There are two ways to live. It's up to us to decide. There is good and there is evil. Either we serve Christ actively, or we serve Satan actively. There is no middle ground. Good living, righteous living is the only way to please God.

Stealing is taking what belongs to someone else. Speaking what is not truth is lying, deceitful. It is not Godly.

How do I live my life on the earth? It's up to me to decide.

In this life there is going to be troubles.

The Bible Answers the Question: If trials come, what are we to do?

The word is a light to our troubled life.

  • Nahum 1:7

We're to put our trust in God.

  • Psalms 9:9
  • Psalms 46:1
  • Psalm 50:15

What do we do in times of trouble? We are to turn to God. Even in times of good, we should turn to God. We need him always. The goodness of God is shown in that He is a refuge.

Good can come from tribulations, trials. Good can come from this Corona virus, and quarantine in we let it.

  • 2 Samuel 23:22
  • Numbers 32:23

When we do not follow God's way, be sure, God will know.

  • Galatians 6:7
  • Lamentations 3:

Look and see, if you have gone astray, decide to do right and turn to God

  • Psalm 119

The word of God is a light that can guide us back to a right relationship with God.

  • 1 John 1:7

When we walk in the light, the word of God is the light, we can walk in the right way with God. I can repent and turn back and once again walk with God.

  • 2 Kings 18:3

Hezekiah did that which was right, like David, his ancestor did. His own father was a wicked king, but he followed in the footsteps of his Spiritual Father.

The Bible Answers the Question: What then?

The word is a lamp and a light unto our eyes, unto our feet. We need to use it and carry the light into the darkness, the world in which we live.

If I fall away, I must be willing to once again return to the light.

  • 1 John 5:3

We must believe, repent of our sins based upon that belief. We must confess our belief and be baptized for the remission of sins.
