Passage: Romans 1:21
Service Type:

I want to give you some ways we can glorify God.

  • Romans 1:20-21

Before the gospel was ever preached to the Gentiles they were not without knowledge of a god. They had some knowledge that there was God.

Cain, certainly turned away from God. Yet, there was knowledge of God from the foundation of the world.

  • Psalms 19:1-2

There was knowledge of God it was available, and was always available.

  • Romans 1:20-21

So that they are without excuse. They had the ability to know God, yet even though they knew God, they glorfiied Him not as God.

We see the importance of glorfiying God.

All men have sinned, because every peoples on the face of the earth has some knowledge that their is a Creator God. They knew Him but refused to give Him glory or acknowledge Him as God.

They instead, became vain in their imaginations, and turned to foolish things of the world. There is no sensible reasoning wihtout a sensible starting point. And that point is God.

If we reject Him there is no hope.

When nations eliminate God their foolish hearts become darkened.

To glorify God as God is to acknowledge Him as Creator, and to give him the honor, and glory due His name today. To give Him that glory we should be doing what we were created to do.

  • John 17:4

Even His own Son glorified the Father by doing the things He was sent to do. We too, must do what we were created to do in order to glorify God.

We Glorify God by Being in His Family

We cannot glorify God without being in His family.

God has no children who are outside His family. It is only the things done by His children that bring Him glory.

Morality alone cannot save us. Living a life of civic duty cannot save us without God. Without God, man cannot save himself.

  • Jeremiah 10:23

Cornelius, The Centurion was:

  • A devout man, Acts 10:1-2
  • A moral man needing to be saved, Acts 11:14

To be a good moral person is one of the conditions to becoming a Christian, but morality alone is not sufficient.

  • Acts 10:1-2
  • Acts 11:14

We glorify God by being in His family.

We Glorify God by Being in His Church

To be glorifying God we must be in His church. Wht church? Jesus said he'd build His church. Therefore, there can be no doubt that we must be in His church.

  • Ephesians 3:21
  • Matthew 16:18

Can you glorify God in anoher church, or religious body that doesn't take the name of Christ.

After the first centurly many drifted away from His church in the great apostacy. Denomitions are all part of the apostacy.

The reformation sought to reform the Catholic church, which was part of the apostacy. THerefore any reformation of a false church remains false.

We must be in the church that Jesus Christ built.

  • Psalms 127:1
  • Acts 2:47

We hear a lot today about denominations. Isn't it about time for the world to hear that Jesus Christ himself establishd a church, HIS CHURCH..

These denominations begain in different times and places. In this great babble of voices the world loses sight of the original church, the one that Jesus founded.

It's great to know that Jesus left exact plan for how to get into the church, and how to live in it and how to stay in it.

Christ's church is not a denomination. The church is not a bulding, it is not those outside His church.

  • Acts 2:47

God adds to the church, we can only glorify God in the church that He adds people to.

We Glorify God in the Name "Christian"

  • 1 Peter 4:16

The name Christian is used to define those who follow Christ. Anyone who suffers in the name "Christian" will suffer for being a follower of Christ, and we glorify God in these sufferings.

  • Acts 5:41
  • Isaiah 62:2,
  • Acts 11:26

Christian - And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch.

That was the name, the name we should want to wear. It has the name of Christ in it.

In the Old Testament God gave a name to His people. The name Israel, the name Is-ra-el. This name contains the name of God, in the Hebrew language, the name, El, was the name of God.

And those who saw them coming would know they were the people  of God.

  • Deuteronomy 28:10

Likewise, we should want to hold the name of Christ, to glorify God in the name of Christ.

We Glorify God in our Lives

We glorify God by the way we live our lives. The manner of life that we live is what can bring glory to God.

  • Mattthew 5:16

Christ is the source and center of the Spiritual life.

  • John 8:12

Christians who are connected to Christ, the light of the world, dispels the darkness that is around them by being connected to the light.

Christians should strive to be living epistles to the world around us.

  • 2 Corinthians 3:2

"We are the only Bible the careless world will read: we are the sinner's Gospel, we are the scoffer's creed; we are the Lord's last message, given in deed and word. What if the type is crooked? What if the print is blurred?" - Annie Johnson Flint

It's not necessarily the word we profess, but how we live our lives that professes Christ. Many in the world live in such a way that the word they say is but a hipocrisy for the way they live.

  • Galatians 2:20

The only life that brings glory to God is a crucified life, a life of Christ living in us.

Glorifying God

  • Romans 1:21
  • John 17:5
  • John 13:31
  • Romans 8:17-18
  • Colossians 3:4
  • 1 John 3:2
  • John 14:6

We live for Him, by sacrificing our lives for Him. We do that through obedience.

Glorifying God begins when we hear His word, and choose to believe and obey it. You obey it when you believe that Jesus is God's son, and repent of your sins. When you confess Jesus' name before men, and act in obedience to His will by being baptized to have your sins washed away, and rise from baptism to walk, and live a faithful life glorifying God through the Son.
