Guarding Against Temptation

Speaker:
Series:
Passage: Proverbs 4:24-27
Service Type:

We must deal with the problem of sin, how do we deal with temptation. We must learn how to limit the possibility that leads us to sin. We do this by limiting ourselves from situations that cause temptations.

In Proverbs 4, we learn there are four areas of our lives where we need to guard ourselves to keep away from temptation.

Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life. Put away from thee a froward mouth, and perverse lips put far from thee. Let thine eyes look right on, and let thine eyelids look straight before thee.  Ponder the path of thy feet, and let all thy ways be established. Turn not to the right hand nor to the left: remove thy foot from evil." - Proverbs 4:24-27

Guard Your Hearts

The word keep in the passage, means to keep, guard, maintain. And the word, diligence is to keep guard or protect as in a military guard protecting. The passage tells us to keep, to guard our hearts with all diligence, for out of the heart are the issues of life.

The heart is the center of the man that is vital to the spiritual success. The heart reveals our true character

The mind/soul the center of our being.

Guard Our Feet

Proverbs 4:26,27

Where we let our feet take us will have the most affect on our heart. When we go into places, areas, where we know temptations are and will be, we allow our eyes to see those things which can cause our hearts to sin.

  • Proverbs 7:6-10

How do we guard our feet? We stay away from temptation as much as is possible by staying away from the things which cause temptation

  • Proverbs 4:??
  • Jeremiah 10:23

We must guard our heart, mouth, eyes and feet because God knows.

"Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do." - Hebrews 4:13

All things are revealed before God. Solomon allowed those women whom he married to pull him away from the Lord. But, Ecclesiastes shows us he came back to the conclusion that the whole purpose of man is to fear God, Ecclesiastes 12:13,14.

God wants us to come to heaven to be where he is. Only those without sin can come to God. But, we all sin and are sinners.  God sent his son, to take the place of the guilty. His righteous justice had to be fulfilled and his son is the fulfillment of that.

If you believe that Jesus is the son of god and will confess that He is and are willing to obey Him by being baptized for the remission of your sins, you can be added to the church. If you are a Christian who has not been guarding your heart, your life, then you can be restored. We are here to help you, and help each other as we all try to get to heaven.
