Passage: Genesis 1:1
Service Type:

We’re living in strange times. With all the distress that’s going on. We are certainly living in difficult times with the Corona virus, and the rioting that’s going on.

  •  1 Timothy 2:1

We have a right to be upset about the murder that took place in Minneapolis, but we do not have a right to riot about it. We can peaceably protest, but not cause destruction.

We must preach the whole counsel of God. But, as a preacher we have to come up with something to preach about. But, coming up with something 2 times a week, plus Bible study it can be difficult to come up with something, relevant.

Sometimes, even preachers need to think about nothing.

“Nothing ventured, nothing gained.”

I’ve decided to preach about nothing.

Websters” Nothing, not anything, non-entity, non-existent, a state of annihilation.

The first thing that comes to mind about nothing is…

Out of Nothing God Created the World

  • Genesis 1:1
  • Job 26:7
  • John 1:1-3

Out of nothing God created the world.

  • Colossians 1:16-17
  • Hebrews 1:1-3

In the beginning, God, out of nothing created the universe.

This is the only way to explain where the world came from. A pre-existing being made the universe out of nothing.

Atheists need to start with something for the universe to be created… whether it’s the big bang or something else. God created everything, even the dirt He used to create man.

Man Brought Nothing into the World

And, can take nothing out.

  • 1 Timothy 6:6-7

We can take nothing out, so we need to be content with what we have.

  • Job 1:21

Since man can’t take anything out of the world, man’s quest shouldn’t be material. Solomon discovered this the hard way.

  • Ecclesiastes 12:13

The purpose of our stay is spiritual, preparation for another life.

  • Amos 4:12

We have to live everyday in preparation for that great day of judgment where we face God.

If you lose site of this fact, you’ll not be prepared when you die.

  • Matthew 6:19-20
  • 1 Timothy 6:17-19

Material possessions will not profit you in the world to come. We need to be sure we are using the possessions we have for God’s glory.

Man brought nothing into the world, and it is sure he can take nothing out.

For Without Me You Can Do Nothing

  • John 15:4-5

It doesn’t matter how we live our life, if we live it without Christ it profits us nothing. Without Him we can do nothing.

  • Matthew 1:21
  • John 14:6

Jesus literally means, Jehovah saves. He will save men from their sins.

He is the only way to the Father.

His gospel is the only way to salvation.

Romans 1:16

Christ is the Savior, He is the only way. Those that ware saved are in His church.

  • Ephesians 2:16

Jesus said without me, you can do nothing.

Religious Acts Minus Love Equals Nothing

  • 1 Corinthians 13:1-3
  • John 14:23

Faith, minus love is nothing. Benevolence minus love is nothing. You take love out of the equation and it means nothing. When you do the right things for the wrong reasons it is worth nothing.

Matthew 22:34-40

On these two commandments hang all the law and prophets.

Everything done of religious duty, should be based upon love. Love would solve many problems in the church, in the world. When we look to our fellow man with love, we can show the love of Christ.

  • John 14:23

When we love God and love our neighbor as our selves we would be fulfilling all the law and prophets, thus obeying he commandments of God.

If the Salt Have Lost it's Savor, It is Thenceforth Good for Nothing

  • Matthew 5:13

Salt is necessary, we can’t live without salt. It adds flavor. But if salt has lost it’s savor, it’s worth nothing.

Salt seasons, saves and preserves. If a child of God loses the qualities that makes us salt he becomes nothing. If a Christian has lost the love we should have, we’ve come to nothing.

I will bring to Nothing the Understanding of the Prudent

  • 1 Corinthians 1:18-19

Man’s wisdom minus God equals nothing. Learning must be mixed with God to be worth something. To those who are being saved the message of the cross is the power of God.

  • 1 Corinthians 1:25-27

We should not just emphasize secular training without the emphasis on Spiritual training.

As Having Nothing and Yet Possessing All Things

  • 2 Corinthians 6:10

We may be the poorest person on the earth, but rich toward God.

  • James 2:5

The poor of the world, but rich in faith. It doesn’t matter how much we have or don't have in the world, we are heirs in the kingdom.

  • Corinthians 1:1-3

Belief plus baptism is salvation.

  • Mark 16:16

Belief minus baptism equals nothing.

  • Acts 2:38

Repentance and baptism equals salvation. But, repentance minus baptism equals nothing.

Paul had believed and repented but it equaled nothing until he was told what to do.

  • Acts 22:16

Here is a penitent man, has prayed, and fasted for 3 days, yet, he still needed to wash away his sins.

Once he was baptized his sins were washed away. That’ show we are saved today. We muts believe confess our believe, repent of our sins, and be baptized to have our sins washed away, this is how one becomes a Christian.

  • Mark 8:36-37

What will it mean if you gain the whole world, but lose your soul? It leads to nothing.
