Passage: Acts 17:6
Service Type:

We're going to be looking this evening in the book of Acts. Beginning in Acts 17, but looking at an overview of the book of Acts, we'll start in Acts 17:5.

They are accused of turning the world upside down. Of course this takes place in Thessalonica, and Paul and Silas had been there preaching for three days. Then, being accused of turnign the world upside down. They of course with their teachings are changing minds. They are accused of inciting sedition, and turning people's minds upside down.

The gospel was the catalyst for turning the world upside down.

  • Acts 4:19-20

These apostles, Peter, John and others who may have been there stated they couldn't help but speak of the things they had seen and heard. It was so incredible, they couldn't help but preach it.

  • Acts 5:25-33

They were accused of filling Jerusalem with their doctrine. How, ironic they claimed they were accusing them of this Man's blood, when they told Pilate that they'd accept His blood upon them.

This gospel was the catalyst for turning the world upside down. It cuts to the heart to turn a man's heart toward God.

  • Hebrews 4:12

Christians are charged with the responsibility of taking the gospel to the world.

  • Matthew 28:18-20

This literally means to make disciples of all nations. He said to go into all the earth, all nations, and make dicsipes of all creatures, Mark 16:15,16.

They were told that they were told to commit the message to faithful men, who would carry on the teaching of the gospel.

  • 2 Timothy 2:2

From eleven, we see that the gospel spread in about 30 years throughout all of the Roman empire.

They Turned the World Upside Down by Teaching Jesus Chirst

He preached, Christ. This is how they turned the world upside down, beginning in Jerusalem. They taught by the authority of the name of Jesus, they taught the gospel of Jesus. They taught of His death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ. They taught that they, the Jews were responsible for this death, but all sin, we are all sinners, and all sin is respionsible for the death of Jesus Christ. They preached daiily, in the temple, in the highways, and in every place where they came.

  • They preached in Jerusalm - Acts 5
  • They preached in the temple -- Acts 5:42
  • In the highways -- Acts 5:42
  • In Asia Minor -- Acts 8:30-29
  • Baptism means teaching about immersion.  - Acts 13:38-39

Preaching Jesus involved teaching about prophecy and the fulfillment of prophecy, as we see Philipp teaching from Isaiah 53. We see that preaching Jesus leads to teaching about belief and baptism.

  • Colossians 2:11,12
  • James 2:24
  • 1 Corinthinas 1:23
  • 1 Corinthians 15:1-4

Preaching Jesus is preaching the death, burial and resurrection ofJeuss Christ and in teaching this, they turned the world upside down.

They Turned the World Upside Down by Preaching the Kingdom of Heaven

John the Baptist

  • Luke 16:16

John, didn't live in the kingdom but he helped to introduce it to the world.

Jesus preached the kingdom.

  • Luke 4:43

Jesus taught others to preach the kingdom.

  • Luke 9:1-2
  • Luke 9:60

Jesus preached the kingdom, the disciples preached the kingdom.

  • Acts 8:12

Philip preached the kingdom to the Samaritans.

You see what Phiip tought, the name of jeuss CHrist, and the kingdom. Preaching the gospel teaches Jesus and the Kingdom of God.

The Kingdom preaching involves preachign Jesus. SIt results in baptism. Men and women are the beneficiaries of teaching the kingdom.

The Apostle Paul preached the kingdom.

  • Acts 20:25-27, 28:31

While Paul is under house arrest he preacheds the kingdom of God for two years. Preaching the kngdom invlovs preaching the whold counsel of God.

Preaching hte kingdom above all invlovles preaching Jesus. When we do that, we upset the world around us.

  • Matthew 16:18

The gates of Hell shall not prevail against it. We can change the world, turn it upside down, by preaching the gospel. We can change the hearts and minds of men and women by teaching the gospel.

There are many things we can do, they were unable to do, and yet they turned the world upside down in a generation. We have an obligation to do the same. If we would fill the community with the teaching of Jeuss we can turn our town upside down. Some will obey, many won't.

  • 2 Timothy 4:1-4

Everywhre the gospel is preached, there will be a reaction. It could be indifference, some will accept it, but others will reject it. It's thefew we are looking for. Paul went all over the known Roman Empire world, and he faced both successes and riots.

We need to turn the world upside down... but really we need to turn it right side up. We have an oblication to teach the gospel.

The only way to be saved is to believe the gospel of Jesus Christ, and act upon our belief, and repent of our sins, confess Him before men, be baptized to have our sins forgiven so we can live a faithful life.
