Passage: Psalms 8:4
Service Type:

A few weeks ago we studied about how God made us from the dirt and to the dirt we will return, but we don't want to leave the impression that we are only worth dirt.

  • Psalm 8

David says, in all of creation, what is man, that God is mindful of him?

What are you worth?

  • Hebrews 2:5-9
  • Psalm 8:4

Your Life Matters

All Things Have Value

We look at this world and we realize that all things have value, gold, livestock, money, stock market, our homes, have value.

For many years, the US currency had the gold standard. Her dollars were based upon gold. Now, it is a paper currency that is worth only the reputation of the country. The value of things changes.

For a time, during the oil crisis the value of oil went really high. Yet, it goes up and down based upon demand, and availability. It also drives value of other commodities.

As a person, each person, their body, has value.

What is Your Body Worth?

We live in a time when life should be valued at the most, but it is actually valued as the least.

According to our world, life is cheap, and you don't really matter very much.

Your value is not determined by it's elements, or the prevailing philosophies of the day.

Your real worth is determined by Him who created you.

What is Man that God is Mindful of Him?

God created man from the dust of the ground. Man is a living soul made in the image of an eternal God.  God is the Creator of God, and the one who paid to redeem him. Thus, man's value is determined by God.

  • Psalm 8:4
  • Genesis 2:7
  • Genesis 1:26-27
  • Genesis 1:30

The animals have life, but not the same life that man has. Man was made in the image of God.

  • John 4:24

Scripture makes a distinction between man and animal.

  • Ecclesiastes 3:19-21
  • Ecclesiastes 12:7

This distinction elevates man above the animals giving him dominion over the animals.

Man is body, and soul, flesh, and spirit, having both an inner and an outer man.

  • Isaiah 26:9
  • 1 Peter 3:20
  • Hebrews 4:12
  • 1 Thessalonians 5:23

There is a definite duality to man taught in the scriptures.

  • 2 Corinthians 5:1-9
  • Philippians 1:23-24
  • 2 Corinthians 4:16

Man is "a little lower than the angels..."

  • Psalm 8:5
  • 2 Peter 2:4

Man has opportunity to change in this life. Thus, they have been given an opportunity for salvation.

What is Man Worth?

  • More than sparrows,
    • Matthew 10:29-31
  • More than the animals,
    • Matthew 12:10-13
  • More than the combined wealth of the world,
    • Matthew 16:24-26
  • God declared the exact value of man on Calvary,
    • John 3:16
    • Romans 5:8-10
    • 1 John 4:9-10
    • Acts 20:28
    • 1 Corinthians 6:19-20

Since the value of any commodity is determined by what men are willing to pay, we get some idea of what worth man is to God.

We're worth more than the birds, sheep and beast of burden. We're worth more than all the wealth of the world. In fact, Jesus was offered that, and yet He turned that down and laid down His life for us, valuing us above the wealth.

  • 2 Corinthians 9:15

To receive the promises of God, you must believe in Jesus, the Son of God, confess His name before men, be willing to repent of your sins and be baptized to have sins washed away.

And, having done this, live a life faithful to the Lord so that you can receive the crown, the prize laid up for you in Heaven.
