Think about yourself on a flight. With 43 other passengers, and you've just heard that two ther planes have crashed into the world trade center, and you learn that your plane has been hijacked and probably going to be brought down. I'm talking of course of flight 93. These 44 people decided to stand up and show courage.

I'm reminded of Esther, you know the story of Esther. She knew if she went to the king without invitation it meant that she could be killed.
Our text this morning is in 1 Samuel 17.
We are surrounded by fear. We sometimes inhabit fear. We may fear something in the past, or perhaps, the future. God calls us to not be fearful.

God wants his people to be courageous. God wants leaders in the church to be courageous.
- 1 Corinthians 16:13
A Young Man of Courage
We're talking about David today. David was a man who was courageous. He was probably a young person, 15, 16 or 18. Young people can be courageous.
According to 1 Samuel 16, we know he is one of many brothers. He was the youngest of Jesse.
Young people can accomplish great things. Alexander the Great conquered nations at age 18. Mozart wrote his first symphony at age 9.

Facing Enemies
We face many enemies.
We face false accusations.

We face discouragement.

God didn't made us to be timid, or cowardice. But, of power, love, and a sound mind. As young people hwo want to serve God we need to be bold, courageous, like David.
David, wasn't afraid. He was the only one.
We might be alone sometimes, but we aren't alone for God is with us.
If we are going to overcome the goliaths in our lives we ned to like David, prepare. He took his sling and gathered stones.
We need to be prepared.
David was Confident
- Proverbs 28:1
We can be confident because God is on our side.
Why are the rightesou as bold as a lion?
We can be overly confident, we can be too prideful. We ened to be confident in ourselves.

David says... WILL, this is something he knows he's going to do. He's confident. As people of God we need to be confident. We need to be confident in the things we know are going to happen.
We need to approach studying, with the goal in mind. We need to in our mind imagine their baptism so we have the goal in mind.

Satan will come against us, discouragement will come. We will face those lions. We need to know that we can.
We need to be confident about what we can do.
What Can we Do?
David was really to fight against the Philistine. Even when the whole world is against us, we can do it.
We can obey the gospel. We can be an example.
- 1 Timothy 4:12
What does Paul tell Timothy? To be an example in word, and conversation, that's actions; in charity, thats emotion; in spirit, that's our attitude. Do I have a willing attitude?
We need to be an example in the church.
- You can be an encouragement.
- You can worship God.
- We can be an evangelizer.
- We can be an inviter.
- We can be a servant.

David had a 5 stones and a sling. David was very accurate with his sling. Think of battle. How many soldiers used a sling and stone as a weapon?

Weapons of the world don't suffice. Like David, that armor wasn't going to suffice David.
- Ephesians 6:14-17
If we're going to overcome the world, let's be armored. Let's make sure we have the right ones.
Always have the truth, John 17:17, God's word. The only weapon of defense listed is the sword. What is the sword? It is God's Word. We need a spiritual armor because we're facing a spiritual battle.
God doesn't need carnal weapons to win.

David says, God doesn't need physical. We can use what God gives us, and that is His Word.
Let's use the weapon He's given us.

David may have been the only one to have a sling, but it workded. Today, not a lot of people use the Word. Let's be corageous, and use the weapon, the Word, to teach others.

When you think of application today, recognize, we've already won. We already know, because we have the most powerful One in the universe.

We know we have God on our side. David knew.

We've got God, what can come against us?
Do as God would have you to do. Trust is important. In Judges, Gideon was told to trust, not in an army, but in God.
God is always encouraging us.

David knew that God was with him.

If you trust God, everything will work out. Maybe not for the phsyical standpoint, but we can have the eternal reward.

We have the advantage, yet it's not really an advantage becasue their are no odds. ...
David was prepared and knew God was with him.
We Need to be Prepared

Our attitude should be, here am I send me.

It's not my life anymore, it's Christ's.

We each have talents. We need to be willing to use them for God.
No one else was willing, but David was willing because someone was mistreating his God.
Even as you look at Goliath, the physical, David was willing to go because God was with him.
