John Shafer and I depart for Vijayawada, India tomorrow evening. John will be flying out of Omaha and Denver to Frankfurt, Germany and then on to Hyderabad, India and I will be flying out of Kansas City and Chicago, through London and on to Hyderabad where we will both meet up with our translators, brothers GDVK Prasad and S. Karunanidhi and drive from there about 170miles to Vijayawada. We will be leaving on Monday, but finally arriving on Wednesday – India time. The flight for┬áeach of us is about 20 hours┬áin the air and┬áIndia is 11.5 hours ahead of the Central Time Zone. (Coming home is the longest day when we fly 20 hours and lose 11.5 hours on the clock, which makes it about a 36 hour day!)
We are looking forward to the work! We are scheduled to hold 30 different gospel meetings. We will stay in Gunadala (near Vijayawada), in Tanuku, in Rajahmundry and in Koyallagudem and from each location we will visit and preach at various congregations in villages┬ánearby. At each meeting, John and I both preach a sermon and usually there is already some preaching being done by one of the local preachers when we arrive for our meeting. We do this in 2 or 3 villages per day. It’s a relatively short stay, but much work gets done. Last year, we witnessed about 130 baptisms from various meetings we preached. At some of the meetings, there┬áwere as few as 20 people present and at others as many as 500 present! But whether there be many people or whether there be few the gospel is preached and that is exciting!
I will try to give updates as we I have internet access and am not otherwise too exhausted to write. I thank you in advance for your prayers.
