Passage: 2 Kings 7

Jesus Christ is our example. He is who we are to follow in all things.

  • 1 Peter 2:21-27

We are called to Christ-likedness. We are to follow the example and have the same mindset that Jesus had.

  • Philippians 2:5

We are called to have the same mind, and follow His example.

  • Luke 19:10

Jesus came for one purpose. To seek and save the lost.

  • Luke 19:41

Jesus was concerned for the souls of people. He came to give his life and to be a ransom for us.

  • Romans 5:6-9

Christ died that we might live. Through His great commission we learn what He would have us to do.

  • Daniel 12:3

We are called to turn others to Christ. We are called to spread the gospel, and the gospel is good news.

  • 2 Kings 6:24-29

Just a  bit of the idea of what was happening. They were driven to the point of starvation that they turned to eating their own children. The king of Syria was besieging Samaria.

The Four Lepers Example of Good Tidings

  • 2 Kings 7:3-16

The four lepers decided that they would go to the camp of the Syrians to ask, beg, for help. But, when they arrived they discovered no man in the camp.

The Lord had made the hosts of Syrians to hear noise of chariots and in their fear they had fled.

The four lepers ate, and then hid the stores of treasure. But, as twilight came they realized what a day of good tidings. Thus, they went back to the city to declare all that they discovered.

The valuable lesson we learn from the four lepers is that it was a day of good tidings.

Jesus, brough the good tidings. We need to tell people about the good tidings that Jesus brought to all mankind.

There is a Famine of Good Tidings

When we talk about the famine in the world today, it is a famine of God's Word.

  • Amos 8:11

Today, people do not study the Word as they once did. Today, God has provided both the milk of the Word and the meat of the Word. Yet, there are some who stay in the milk.

The milk is likened to learning how to become a Christian, and the meat is likened to knowing how to live the Christian life.

  • Hebrews 5:12

We have the complete revealed Word of God. Yet some don't study it.

  • 2 Timothy 2:15
  • John 4:31-34
  • Job 23:12

As tragic as it would be to experience a famine of food, it would be far worse to live a famine of God's Word.

We need to make sure we are doing our part in teaching others the good tidings of God's Word.

  • Hosea 4:6

Are we aiding in the destruction of others? Are we aiding in the famine of the Word when we fail to teach?

  • Luke 17:10

We are to carry on the work of Christ, we are to teach the Word. It is the responsibility of Christians to carry the water to thirsting souls.

  • John 4:13-14

We are to share the Living Bread with others.

  • John 6:48-51

He came to bring the Living Bread to souls that are starving. Knowing that we have the Living Bread, how heartless to not feed the starving souls?

Consequences of Keeping Quiet about the Good Tidings

We fail to keep the great commision when we keep quiet. He told them, in Matthew 28:18-20 to teach them to observe all things.

In keeping silent about the good tidings we fail to honor the great commission.

  • 1 Peter 2:9-10

Wev'e been calle dout of darkness, we've obtained mercy. How can we receive these great blessings and yet, remain silent? We will answer to God

Ezekial 33:13

If the watchmen fail to pass the message, the watchmen is resposnsible for what happens to the people.

Today, the church is the watchmen of the world. We will be held accountable if we don't do our part in warning others.

  • Mark 16:5

Why Many Keep Silent about the Good Tidings

For some, they've forgotten about the salvation they've obtained.

  • 2 Peter 1:8-9

Those who enjoy the blessings of salvation will want to tell others.

  • John 1:43-26
  • Revelation 21:8

Those that are fearful will taste the second death.

  • 2 Timothy 1:7-8
  • Acts 4:28-31
  • Ephesians 6:19-20

Paul, in prison, asks for boldness to proclaim God's Word even in the household of Caesar.

We can't grow weary in doing good.

  • Galatians 6:9

The Lord is our great example.

  • Hebrews 12:1-3

Fear and discouragement can be overcome through faith, prayer and perseverance. Let us go forth and show others that there is Good Tidings in our world.

Let us follow Jesus, our perfect example in spreading the good news. We must be willing to spread the good news in a world that is starving. If we receive the blessings, like the four lepers, we must go and tell others so they too can share in the blessings of salvation.

One receives the blessings when they believe that Jesus is the son of God and repents of their sins, confessing His name before men. And when one is baptized for the remission of sins they receive the blessings of God through Christ Jesus.
