The Preeminence of Christ

In Colossians Paul sets forth Jesus as the preeminence of all things. The problem at Colosse was Gnosticism which taught that Jesus was not God bu an inferior begin sent to do God's will. Paul stood against this doctrine by proving the preeminence of Christ.

We are meant to be partakers of light, Colossians 1:12,13. God is light.

As one partakes in Christ's light we reflect it as we live the gospel in our lives.

Relation to Universe

Colossians 1:18

  • He is the sustainer and uphold by the word of His power.

Pre-existed with the Father

  • Philippians 2:5-8, Form of God, Equal with God, Likeness of Man

Relation to the Church

Colossians 1:18 He is the head of the body, the church.

He is the preeminent one with all power, over all things.

The Revelation of God

  • all fullness dwells
  • the fullness of revelation, the end of revelation

The Spirit and Christ have all the characteristics of God

The Relationship to Sinners

We need to hold fast to the profession of faith. The promise is conditional if you continue in the faith.

If you are willing He will reconcile you. You can be in the kingdom of God if you believe that He is the Son of God, and are willing to obey Him through baptism into His name.
