Passage: Psalm 95
Service Type:

We all can think of a thousand reasons why we should worship God. But, many others may wonder why we should worship God.

  • Psalm 95

Within this Psalm we see four reasons why we should worship God.

God is Above All gods

  • Psalm 95:3

God is Above Man

  • Acts 10:25-26
  • Isaiah 55:8-9

Our thoughts are not God's thoughts. God is above man in every way possible.

God is Above Angels

John, shows us this in his vision which He had of Heaven. The angel tells Joh, that we are to worship God.

  • Revelation 22:9

God is the Only One Worthy of Worship

Recently, in Bible class we studied about Elijah and the prophets of Baal.

  • 1 Kings 18:21;39

We're familiar with this story. They set up altars, and the 450 prophets of Baal tried calling out to their god. But, they could not prove their god. Elijah drowns his altar and prays to God. And, the entire altar and water, including the stones were consumed.

This act, made them realize that God is the one true God.

Jesus, when tempted by the Devil stated that we are to worship God alone.

  • Matthew 4:10

We've looked back on Elijah and throughout the Old Testament the children of Israel would go in and out of turning to worship idols. We have idols today, it might not be a carved image, but we tend to idolize money, or sports figures, etc. Anything we put above God becomes an idol.

God is Creator of All Things

  • Psalm 95:4-5

He Created the World

  • Genesis 1:1
  • John 1:1-3

John says there is nothing out there that is made, that was not made by God.

  • Exodus 20:11
  • Psalm 19:1

God's handiwork can be seen throughout all of creation. When you think of all the things you've seen that are beautiful, know that God created it.

God Give Us Life, Breath and Everything

  • Acts 17:24-25, 28

Paul says that in God, we live, move  and have our very being. He created you and I.

He is the Good Shepherd

  • Psalm 95:6-7
  • Psalm23:1

How true it is, that the Lord is our Shepherd. We, today are the sheep of His pasture when we hear His voice.

  • John 10:11, 14
  • John 10:3-5

The sheep hear His voice, no other. We know His voice. For us, today, the voice of God is found in the Bible, nothing else.

Neglect of God's Word Costs a Generation in Canaan

  • Psalm 95:8-11

The generation who lost out on the promised land and spent 40 years of wilderness wanderings because they had not listened to the voice of God. Because of their constant wavering away from God, they lost their lives and were destroyed because of their unbelief.

  • Numbers 13:30-33
  • Numbers 14:29,34
  • 1 Corinthians 10:1-12
  • 2 Timothy 1:7

Learning to apply the need to worship God.

He is the Creator of the earth. There is no god above God. No one has more power than Him. Not even Satan has power over God.

When we look at the reasons why we are to worship God, we understand that we each have a decision to choose to serve God.

  • John 4:24
  • Joshua 25:15

We have a duty to worship God, the one, and only God.

When we continue to worship God and refuse any idols out there we will receive the promise that He has made to us. The Christian's promised land is Heaven. We can go there by obeying and worshipping Him only.

"You will do nothing more important than worshipping God today." — Stan Mitchell
